Responsibilities

Design database solutions including physical structure, functional capabilities, security, and recovery specifications
Lead database and schema design efforts with appropriate documentation
Develop architectural strategies from modeling through implementation to meet business requirements
Monitor and tune databases for optimal performance and reliability
Perform database backups and restorations to alternate environments
Lead database components of system-wide projects
Troubleshoot database-related issues and errors
Contribute to both small and large projects with system-wide impact
Perform additional related responsibilities as assigned

Required

Proven experience designing and building relational databases for storage and processing
Ability to create and implement data warehouse strategies, including acquisition and recovery
Demonstrated skill in creating effective database specifications
Proficiency in multiple technical environments and business domains
Advanced database administration skills using Microsoft SQL Server, DB2, UNIX, or Oracle
Expertise in performance tuning using system and query optimization techniques
Strong verbal and written communication skills for diverse stakeholder groups
Experience in data migration and management
Familiarity with operating systems including Windows Server, Unix, Linux, and AIX
Strong critical thinking and multitasking abilities under tight deadlines
Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, or related field
10+ years of IT experience, including significant involvement in system-impacting projects
Equivalent military experience will be considered

Preferred

Certified database administrator in Microsoft SQL Server, DB2, or Oracle
Experience in health insurance industry environments
7–8 years of database administration and implementation experience
