Responsibilities

Directing a program segment that performs a variety of diverse programs and/or services that are professional, technical, and/or administrative in nature
Providing administrative advice on strategic issues; collaborates with other Program Offices across CBP and other components within DHS to improve end-to-end processes throughout the Program Office/component, or equivalent organization; utilizes various analytical methodology including but not limited to a wide range of process mapping
Developing the ability of others to perform and contribute to the organization, providing ongoing feedback and opportunities to learn through formal and informal methods; guiding others to make the most of their available skills; recognizing achievements and contributions; and addressing morale problems
Establishing vision and focus for the organization, aligning personnel and other resources in a manner consistent with the organizational vision and objectives; and helping personnel understand how their work relates to the organizational vision; and
Holding self and others accountable for measurable, high-quality, timely, and cost-effective results; setting clear, well-defined performance outcomes and tracking progress

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is a federal law enforcement agency that requires all applicants to undergo a thorough background investigation prior to employment
Individuals are required to have physically resided in the United States or its protectorates for at least three of the last five years
All employees new to the federal government must serve a one-year probationary period during the first year of his/her initial permanent federal appointment to determine fitness for continued employment
Current and former federal employees may be required to serve or complete a probationary period
Experience: You qualify for the GS-14 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as: Overseeing a program segment that performs professional, technical, and/or administrative work; Managing the development, assignment, and higher-level clearance of goals and objectives of subordinate organizational units or lower organizational levels; and Developing methods, internal controls, programs and procedures to improve cost effectiveness, streamline organizational structures, and assuring conformity with sound management principles

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social)
You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience
The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees
