Store Project Manager

The Store Project Manager leads a crew in executing store projects, ensuring they are completed on time, within budget, and to quality standards while managing all aspects of project execution and team dynamics.

Responsibilities
Lead and direct a crew of 7-10 team members during store remodels, relocations, and special projects
Conduct daily pre-shift briefings and post-shift debriefings with crew
Assign tasks based on crew skills, project priorities, and timeline requirements
Monitor crew productivity and provide real-time coaching and performance feedback
Resolve crew conflicts and maintain positive team morale during extended travel assignments
Ensure proper crew scheduling including breaks, meal periods, and compliance with labor laws
Review project scope, blueprints, planograms, and fixture plans prior to deployment
Coordinate with Store Operations, Real Estate, and Construction teams on project requirements
Create detailed work schedules and task assignments to meet project milestones
Oversee fixture assembly, merchandise placement, and visual merchandising standards
Ensure compliance with West Marine brand standards and merchandising guidelines
Conduct quality inspections at project milestones and final walk-throughs
Document project progress through photos and daily status reports
Manage project change orders and communicate impacts to stakeholders
Enforce all OSHA safety regulations and West Marine safety policies
Conduct daily safety huddles and jobsite safety inspections
Ensure proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) by all crew members
Identify and mitigate safety hazards in work environments
Complete incident reports and manage workers' compensation claims if injuries occur
Maintain Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) and safety equipment on jobsites
Ensure crew compliance with store operating hours and security protocols
Coordinate equipment, tools, and material deliveries to project sites
Manage company vehicle fleet including fuel cards, maintenance, and DOT compliance
Oversee proper loading, transport, and unloading of equipment and materials
Track inventory of tools, equipment, and supplies; report losses or damages
Ensure proper storage and security of company assets at project sites
Manage project budget including labor hours, materials, and travel expenses
Arrange crew travel including flights, rental vehicles, and hotel accommodations
Process travel expense reports for crew in accordance with company policy
Ensure crew compliance with travel policies and per diem guidelines
Coordinate with hotels for extended stay arrangements and crew need
Manage travel disruptions and adjust project schedules as needed
Provide daily project status updates to reporting Manager
Communicate project delays, issues, or budget concerns immediately to leadership
Coordinate with store management on operational needs during remodel/relocation
Submit weekly project reports including labor hours, progress photos, and completion forecasts
Participate in post-project reviews and lessons learned sessions
Qualification
Required
High school diploma or GED required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree, Business, or related field preferred
Minimum 3-5 years of project management experience in retail construction, remodels, or store setups-10 years in retail management
Minimum 2 years of direct supervisory experience managing teams of 5+ employees
Proven experience managing projects with budgets of $100K+
Valid driver's license with clean driving record (required for company vehicle operation)
Ability to pass background checks and drug screening
Must be available for extended travel (up to 75% of travel with assignments lasting 2-4 weeks)
Proficient in reading construction blueprints, planograms, and fixture installation drawings
Strong knowledge of retail fixture systems, merchandising displays, and store layouts
Experience with project management software and tools (Microsoft Project, Excel, etc.)
Knowledge of OSHA safety regulations and retail construction safety practices
Familiarity with power tools, hand tools, and warehouse equipment operation
Basic understanding of electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems in retail environments
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Strong problem-solving abilities and decision-making skills under pressure
Ability to motivate and manage diverse teams in high-stress environments
Conflict resolution and team-building capabilities
Customer service orientation when working in active retail locations
Ability to frequently lift and carry 25-50 pounds and occasionally lift up to 75-100 pounds with assistance (marine anchors, fixture components, merchandise boxes, tools, equipment)
Push and pull loaded carts, pallet jacks, and merchandise dollies (up to 500 lbs)
Climb and work from ladders or scaffolding to heights of 12-20 feet
Use power tools including drills, saws, impact drivers, and pneumatic tools for extended periods
Repetitive bending, kneeling, squatting, and reaching to assemble fixtures and stock merchandise
Work in cramped spaces such as stockrooms, mezzanines, and tight aisles while maneuvering materials
Stand, walk, bend, kneel, and climb ladders for extended periods (8–12-hour shifts)
Work in varying environmental conditions including non-climate-controlled spaces
Tolerance for occasional overnight work or extended hours to meet deadlines
Ability to work weekends and holidays as project schedules require
Must be available to work overnight shifts (typically 8pm-6am) to minimize disruption to store operations during remodels and installations
Extended shifts of 10-14 hours may be required during critical project phases
Weekend work (Saturday and Sunday) is frequently required to meet project deadlines
Holiday work may be necessary when project timelines demand it
Flexibility to adjust schedule based on store operating hours and project needs
