Water Resource Project Engineer

Headsbase is seeking a motivated mid-level Water Resources Engineer to join their Herndon, VA team. The role involves performing technical design tasks in drainage and stormwater management, hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, and mentoring junior engineers while supporting the growth of the Water Resources discipline.

Management Consulting

Responsibilities

Develop drainage and stormwater management designs in accordance with client specifications and guidelines
Perform complex hydrologic and hydraulic analyses
Analyze survey reports, maps, drawings, aerial photography, and topographic data
Conduct watershed studies
Assist in preparing contract documents including scopes, fees, plans, reports, specifications, and cost estimates
Collaborate with engineers from multiple disciplines
Mentor junior engineers
Coordinate with contractors, consultants, government agencies, and internal teams
Support construction phase services as requested
Perform other related duties as assigned

Required

Experience in linear drainage, stormwater management, and erosion & sediment control design
Knowledge of complex hydrologic and hydraulic modeling
Proficiency in: MicroStation OpenRoads Designer, HEC-RAS, PCSWMM
Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects
Strong time management and organizational skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Office
Bachelor's degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering (Water Resources emphasis) from an ABET-accredited program
4–10 years of Water Resources engineering experience
Professional Engineer (PE) license in Virginia or ability to obtain within 6 months
Hydrologic modeling using TR-55 / TR-20 / Rational Method
Hydraulic modeling using HEC-RAS, HY-8, HydroCAD, or similar tools
Drainage and stormwater management design experience
Erosion and sediment control design experience
Experience working with local and state-level clients

Preferred

Virginia DEQ Certified Stormwater Management Combined Administrator
Familiarity with VDOT and Locally Administered Project (LAP) requirements
Experience with GIS
