Political Science and Criminal Justice: Department Chair/Professor - Fall 2026

Georgia Gwinnett College (GGC) is dedicated to providing exceptional educational experiences and is seeking a Department Chair for Political Science, Criminal Justice, and International Studies starting July 1, 2026. The Department Chair will provide leadership, manage course scheduling, and contribute to teaching and scholarly activities while fostering excellence in programs and student engagement.

Responsibilities

Provide leadership for the department and work collaboratively with the faculty across the Department's disciplines to meet the academic needs of students
Foster excellence in programs, instruction, scholarly activity, student engagement, and service
Manage course scheduling and personnel, lead curriculum development, and cultivate and maintain alumni relations
Contribute to the work of the Department through teaching (half-time), remaining active as a scholar, and through student engagement and service
Perform other duties as assigned

Required

Terminal degree in one of the disciplines of the department, with the experience and documented achievements appropriate for consideration of an appointment at the rank of Full Professor
A record of effective teaching, service, student engagement, and scholarly activity within the candidate's area of specialization
Relevant academic administrative experience
A strong commitment to the School and College mission and a passion for working with and mentoring faculty and students
Excellent leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills
A commitment to fostering academic excellence

Preferred

Preference may be given to candidates with at least three years of academic leadership experience at the program level or higher
Preference may be given to candidates with experience planning, managing, and administering a departmental budget to align with the Department's strategic goals and mission
