Project Based Installer (TEMPORARY)

The Project Based Installer will assist with the installation of photovoltaic (PV) and battery (BESS) systems, working closely with tribal workforce trainees and volunteers to promote solar energy in underserved communities.

Responsibilities

Assist in the installation of rooftop and ground-mounted solar PV systems in NorCal communities
Mount and wire solar panels, inverters, and other system components according to project specifications
Follow all safety procedures, ensuring compliance with OSHA and NEC standards
Troubleshoot and assist in resolving any technical issues that arise during installations
Maintain tools, equipment, and job site organization to ensure efficient workflow
Work alongside workforce trainees, providing hands-on instruction and support
Assist in volunteer engagement and ensure a positive, educational experience for participants
Foster a respectful and inclusive work environment that aligns with GRID Alternatives mission
Support site preparation, including staging materials and ensuring all necessary tools are available
Assist in loading, unloading, and transporting materials to job sites
Maintain a clean and safe work area at all times

Required

1-2 years of hands-on experience in solar installation, electrical work, or construction
Basic understanding of solar PV systems and installation techniques
Ability to lift up to 70 lbs, work on rooftops, and perform tasks in various weather conditions
Understanding of basic safety protocols; commitment to maintaining a safe job site
Willingness to travel extensively (up to 75%) to project sites in NorCal
Strong ability to work collaboratively in a team setting with diverse groups
Valid driver's license with a clean driving record

Preferred

Solar installation experience, electrical experience, general construction experience
Passion for sustainability, affordable housing, the environment, or environmental justice, or just generally grounded in making the world a better place
Ability to work well with others and demonstrate a safe and positive construction site
OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification preferred; NABCEP Associate Certification is a plus
