Metrology Lab Supervisor

Responsibilities

Supervise and coordinate daily laboratory operations to ensure calibration activities are performed accurately, on time, and in accordance with company standards
Assign, prioritize, and monitor staff workload; provide mentoring, coaching, and performance feedback
Set the example for professionalism, quality, and adherence to procedures
Perform and oversee complex calibrations of biomedical and general-purpose M&TE across multiple disciplines (electrical, temperature, pressure, flow, force, dimensional, etc.)
Review and validate calibration results for accuracy, precision, and compliance with applicable standards
Ensure calibration equipment and resources are maintained, calibrated, and available for use
Provide technical guidance to staff and customers on calibration methods, uncertainties, and results
Promote compliance with ISO/IEC 17025, ANSI Z540.1, ISO 9001, and ISO 13485 standards
Ensure documentation follows Good Documentation Practices (GDP)
Participate in internal audits; drive continuous improvement initiatives
Support the implementation of new technologies, methodologies, or automation tools that enhance laboratory performance
Partner with customer service staff to resolve inquiries and ensure customer satisfaction
Prepare, analyze, and present laboratory reports and performance metrics to management
Coordinate with procurement to maintain adequate laboratory supplies and tools
Coordinate with engineering to maintain accurate procedures and datasheets

Required

Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Management, Electronics, Engineering, Metrology, or related technical field; OR equivalent combination of education and experience
Minimum of 6 years of experience in calibration/metrology, with at least 2 years in a supervisory, lead, or senior technician role
Military training in PMEL, TMDE, or equivalent strongly considered in lieu of degree
Strong knowledge of calibration principles, metrology practices, and uncertainty concepts
Proficiency in performing and validating complex calibrations across multiple disciplines (electrical, temperature, pressure, flow, dimensional, etc.)
Experience with metrology software and automated calibration systems
Ability to oversee laboratory scheduling, resource allocation, and equipment readiness
Competence in preparing, analyzing, and presenting calibration reports and performance metrics
Working knowledge of quality standards (ANSI Z540-1, ISO/IEC 17025, ISO 9001) and application within a calibration lab
Leadership: Proven ability to supervise, mentor, and develop staff
Decision-Making: Capable of resolving escalated technical and operational issues effectively
Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills for both technical and customer-facing interactions
Problem-Solving: Skilled in diagnosing calibration or process issues and implementing corrective actions
Organization: Strong ability to manage multiple priorities, deadlines, and resources
Collaboration: Builds positive relationships with internal teams and external customers
Adaptability: Flexible in responding to changing priorities, new technologies, and high-pressure situations

Preferred

Additional certifications in quality, leadership, or process improvement (e.g., Lean Six Sigma) preferred
