Mountain Sentinels Alliance Fellowship 2026

Mountain Sentinels is assembling a worldwide group of individuals dedicated to mountain well-being and sustainability. The Fellows Program invites proposals for projects aimed at improving social and environmental sustainability in mountain communities.

Responsibilities

Fellows should propose a project focused on improving social and environmental sustainability in mountains
Fellows will be responsible for a final product such as a report, blog, video diary, photos, art, or other materials to communicate the outcomes of their project
These products will be shared publicly on our website (mountainsentinels.org)
At the end of the fellowship, we will ask you to write a brief report to share what you learned and how this knowledge can be applied to other mountain communities
You will also be asked to complete a reflective evaluation of the experience
For example, projects might include:
Working with a local group on activities dedicated to social and environmental sustainability
Working with a school to expand access to online learning materials related to mountain sustainability
Leading community hikes in local natural areas to improve human health and understanding of the environment
An art exhibit or community event
Interviewing community members regarding ideas for improving social and environmental sustainability

Required

Applicants must live, work, or have been raised in a mountain community worldwide
Applicants are encouraged to submit a proposal for new or ongoing projects
Fellows should propose a project focused on improving social and environmental sustainability in mountains
Fellows will be responsible for a final product such as a report, blog, video diary, photos, art, or other materials to communicate the outcomes of their project
At the end of the fellowship, a brief report must be written to share what was learned and how this knowledge can be applied to other mountain communities
A reflective evaluation of the experience must be completed
All applicants are expected to live or work in, or have a strong connection to, a mountain community
Applicants must be passionate about social-environmental sustainability
Applicants will be asked to describe how they represent an underrepresented or under-served community in science
A brief description of how the funding will be spent and completion of the budget proposal form must be provided
A resume/CV, no longer than 2 pages, must be submitted
A brief letter of support from a member of the community or group involved in the project must be provided
