Responsibilities

Providing technical litigation support to Health Care Fraud (HCF) criminal trial teams in order to facilitate litigation decisions, trial preparation and trial presentation
Applying knowledge of Federal Rules of Criminal Procedure and of Evidence, court requirements, and district practices to determine the best way to organize and manage case-specific discovery and then using discovery to prove the case by determining what evidence should be presented and how it should be presented
Recommending and identifying appropriate software packages such as: databases, spreadsheets and word processing applications based on the effectiveness of presenting complex and voluminous evidence, producing graphic demonstrative evidence, and/or meeting individual user needs
Preparing exhibits for legal proceedings which may involve a wide range of visual materials including charts, graphs, diagrams, etc
Reviewing, analyzing and synthesizing Medicare, Medicaid and other insurance data for suspicious billing patterns, loss calculations, etc
Performing specialized legal research and writing in support of criminal HCF cases, including research and analysis of statutes, legislative intent, judicial precedents, agency rules and regulations, and law review articles as they relate to assigned cases to include those of an especially complex or unprecedented nature

Required

All academic degrees and coursework must be completed at a college or university that has obtained accreditation or pre-accreditation status from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education
You must be a U.S. Citizen or National
Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory pre-employment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. Continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation
You must be registered for Selective Service, if applicable
If selected, you may be required to complete a one year probationary period
You must meet all qualification requirements upon the closing date of this announcement
To be eligible at the GS-11 level, you must meet at least ONE of the following conditions: Specialized Experience, Education, OR a Combination of Education and Experience
Specialized Experience: At least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 level in federal service
Education: One of the following types of education in a related field (e.g. Criminal Justice, Computer Science, Law, IT): Ph.D., or equivalent doctoral degree in a related field; OR 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree; OR LL.M., if related
Combining Education and Experience: A combination of specialized experience as described in A and education as described in B which when combined equal 100% of the requirements
