Responsibilities
Provide strong leadership to the Plant Engineering team, which includes approximately seven direct and contract personnel with expertise in mechanical engineering, reliability, and inspection. Foster a collaborative and inclusive work environment by advising, mentoring, and training plant engineers. Offer guidance and support to Plant Engineers to enhance their technical skills and professional growth. Encourage continuous learning and development within the team, promoting the sharing of knowledge and best practices
Supervise the investigation, diagnosis, and formulation of equipment repair recommendations to enhance equipment on-stream reliability as requested by Operations, Maintenance, and Engineering per individual task, project, or turnaround schedule
Ensure collaboration with Unit Reliability Supervisors to develop pre-turnaround and turnaround equipment inspection plans specific to equipment design specifications and its process conditions per individual turnaround schedule. Actively participate in turnaround and/or plant shutdown activities
Lead select tasks from concept through execution, ensuring alignment with site priorities, engineering standards, and operational goals. Provide hands-on engineering work, coordinate cross-functional resources, and drive timely delivery of project milestones
Oversee the development of pressure vessel, heat exchanger, tank, and piping repair plans and communicate those plans to Maintenance, while ensuring that all applicable CF specifications and code requirements are met
Understand damage mechanisms that affect equipment in the ammonia, urea, nitric acid, and UAN processes and how those damage mechanisms affect equipment design, fabrication, and repair
Oversee the development of temporary equipment and piping repair plans per individual task or turnaround schedule. Evaluate and recommend eventual permanent corrective action per task or turnaround schedules
Provide technical expertise to plant personnel (e.g., plant engineers, designers, inspectors, maintenance, operations, project and process engineers, etc.) regarding design and fabrication specifications per individual project schedule
Oversee the review of equipment specifications and fabrication drawings in detail to approve suitability for reliable operation in the intended service and compliance with recognized codes and standards, such as API and ASME
Consider safety, quality, cost, and schedule when performing all job functions (e.g., development of repair plans, specifying equipment) and be able to articulate benefits and drawbacks of decisions to supervision and management. Be able to identify alternate courses of action in all cases
Identify and implement improvements to the mechanical integrity program
Develop and maintain engineering specifications, including, but not limited to, pressure vessel specifications, piping specifications, valve specifications, paint specifications, and insulation specifications
Act as a corporate resource on API, ANSI, ASME, and other applicable recognized standards for fixed equipment design, fabrication, inspection, repair, and alteration
Be self-motivated, able to prioritize tasks based on ever-changing plant needs, a good decision maker, and determined to continually expand knowledge of industry standards and practices for the benefit of oneself and the company
Support the corporate EHS Policy and Programs by incorporating the applicable requirements into Plant Engineering programs
Continually evaluate ways to improve site safety
