ENGINEER I
NEOGOV is part of Henry County Government, seeking an Engineer I to perform professional civil engineering tasks in support of plan review and infrastructure projects. This entry-level position involves reviewing engineering plans, coordinating with contractors, and developing engineering specifications for construction projects.

Responsibilities
Completes review of civil engineering aspects of site development plans to ensure compliance with applicable laws, ordinances, regulations, and standards; evaluates and assess the impact of the proposed project with regards to traffic and transportation, drainage and stormwater runoff, hydrology and hydraulics, flood protection, grading and erosion control, zoning and land use appropriateness, and related issues; approves plans and issues permits or initiates any actions necessary to correct deviations or violations; works with developers/engineers to modify plans for conformity; and maintains comprehensive documentation regarding research and design activities
Coordinates and reviews the work of contracted architects and other project service providers; works with contractors to make all design modifications necessary to conform with regulatory and project requirements; and approves the designs as appropriate
Conducts and/or reviews modeling, planning, and engineering studies in support of project analysis and design and provides technical support during construction; prepares reports detailing the quantitative analysis performed and concluding recommendations; and reviews and verifies engineering calculations and analysis submitted by engineering technicians
Conducts a programming assessment to determine space, infrastructure, facility, and other project requirements; and participates in the development of lists of potential infrastructure improvement projects to be included in the capital investment plan for area of assignment
Develops preliminary/final plans and designs using Computer-Aided Drawing (CAD) software and other engineering/drafting tools; and develops engineering specifications for project construction based on programming assessment, design concepts, fundamental engineering principles, and approved preliminary plan
Processes a variety of documentation associated with department/division operations, within designated timeframes, and per established procedures; receives and reviews various documentation; reviews, completes, processes, forwards, or retains as appropriate; prepares or completes various forms, reports, correspondence, and other documentation; compiles data for further processing or for use in preparation of department reports; and maintains computerized and/or hardcopy records
Operates a personal computer to enter, retrieve, review, or modify data, utilizing word processing, spreadsheet, database, mapping, Internet, e-mail, or other software; and operates general office or other equipment as necessary to complete essential functions
Communicates with supervisor, other County employees, architects, property owner, contractors, project manager, other governmental agencies, the public, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems
Performs other related duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
Requires a bachelor's degree in civil engineering or related engineering discipline, and related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience
Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver's license
Knowledge of local government operations, engineering related programs, policies and plans, and modern office practices and procedures
Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other similar programs
Skill in the use of computers and software applications related to the essential functions of the job
Skill in effective communication, both verbally and in writing
Ability to meet and deal with employees and the public in an effective and courteous manner
Ability to get along with others, and work effectively with the public and co-workers
Ability to work flexible hours, including evening meetings
Ability to multi-task and work within deadlines
Ability to deal with confidential and sensitive matters
Ability to work with and process payments for accounts within the budget and department
Ability to use computers for data entry, word processing, and accounting purposes
Ability to operate a copying machine
The work is light work which requires exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force to move objects
Requires mental acuity including the ability to make rational decisions through sound logic and deductive processes, the ability to express ideas by means of the spoken word and have close visual acuity
Work is performed in a relatively safe, and secure work environment
Preferred
Status as an Engineer-in-Training is preferred
