Responsibilities
Observe roofing installations to verify compliance with:
Approved construction documents
Manufacturer installation requirements
Industry standards (e.g., NRCA, ASTM, ANSI)
Applicable local and national building codes
Conduct scheduled and unscheduled site visits during various phases of roofing work
Document installation progress using written reports, photographs, and checklists
Identify and report deficiencies, non-conforming work, and potential performance issues
Communicate observations clearly to contractors, owners, consultants, and project managers
Verify corrective actions and follow up on previously noted deficiencies
Maintain accurate, organized project records and observation logs
Report on safety standards and comply with all site-specific safety requirements
Travel nationwide as required, including overnight stays
Typical travel requirement is 3-4 weeks in the field
Qualification
Required
Minimum 0-3 years of experience in roofing, construction inspection, or quality assurance
Strong knowledge of commercial roofing systems (e.g., TPO, PVC, EPDM, modified bitumen, built-up roofing, metal)
Familiarity with roofing manufacturers' specifications and warranty requirements
Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Proficiency with digital reporting tools, cameras, and basic computer software
Ability to work independently
Ability to access rooftops using ladders or stairs
Comfortable working at heights and in varying weather conditions
Ability to walk, stand, kneel, and inspect roof surfaces for extended periods
Extensive nationwide travel required
Valid driver's license and ability to fly as needed
Must be able to rent a rental car
Preferred
Registered Roof Observer (RRO) certification or equivalent (Preferred or NPC will provide training to obtain certificate after 2-years of experience)
