Zumwalt Electronics Technician

RTX is a leader in defense technology and is seeking a Senior Field Engineer with strong Network and electronics skills to support the Zumwalt Total Ship Activation program. The role involves performing network removal, installation, integration, test, and validation activities for defense systems on Zumwalt Class vessels.

Responsibilities

Network installations and maintenance with knowledge of CISCO Systems (routers, switches, Call Administration servers
Software installations and maintenance with knowledge of Linux / Unix operating systems on RedHat7, as well as knowledge of Java / C / C++
Ship's External Communications System (EXCOMMs) and C4I installation, integration and troubleshooting
Initial responsibilities will include taking down old networks, pulling cables and racks out. Populate and depopulate Server racks
Upkeep and installation of the TSCEI (Total Ship Computing Environment Infrastructure) software aboard Zumwalt Class vessels
Work collaboratively with a team of highly skilled Software and Network Technician and Engineers
Perform equipment installation, checkout, testing, reporting of results, EXCOMMs, C4I, SW, HW and FW upgrades and maintaining records as needed
Provide regular internal status reports to the TSCEi Team
Provide support demonstrating system stage tests
Interact with the Shipbuilder, SUPSHIP, Ship’s Force and outside vendors on TSCE issues and concerns
Perform normal climbing and lifting associated with shipboard electronic work
Accept temporary assignments that involve at-sea support aboard Zumwalt Class vessels

Required

Typically requires a Bachelor's in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM preferred) and a minimum of 5 years of prior relevant experience
Active and transferable U.S. government issued security clearance is required prior to start date. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance
Experience with software / network systems, hardware / software integration, or system activation and test, including hands-on experience working with electrical and computer systems design, integration, and test in either a lab or field setting
Experience with Naval Communications systems and C4I systems
Experience safely conduct testing and integration in a shipboard environment
Willingness to travel to various locations in support of ship maintenance availabilities

Preferred

Demonstrated track record of completed integration events
Customer focus and collaboration skills
Demonstrated Multi-tasking skills - close out projects completely
Prior experience working with Military and Commercial Marine control systems
Experience with test procedure development and test conduct
Familiarity with Zumwalt Ship networks and equipment
Computer, Network and Fiber Optic Certifications
Information System Networks experience
Experience with Microsoft Office products
C4I and combat system test tools (hardware and software)
Ability to perform work on board a naval vessel under construction and during trial periods at sea. Prior experience working in this environment would be an advantage
Interest in future work which may involve travel while providing support to ships under construction or underway for at sea events, a plus
