Responsibilities

Oversee the legal process for accounts referred to the Legal Department in assigned jurisdictions
Review accounts to determine whether legal action is appropriate and identify legal/compliance/internal policy concerns
Draft, review, revise, approve, and execute legal pleadings and documentation including:
Attorney letters, complaints, summonses, answers, motions, proposed orders
Disclosures, discovery, garnishments, satisfactions, and revivals
Review and respond to disputes, answers, motions, and correspondence from consumers and opposing counsel
Appear for return dates and court proceedings as required
Prepare for and conduct trials, mediations, hearings, and pre-trial conferences including:
Reviewing and organizing exhibits
Preparing witnesses
Conducting legal research
Developing arguments and direct/cross examinations
Work collaboratively with opposing counsel, consumers, and internal teams to pursue resolutions and settlements where appropriate
Maintain and support PFC’s professional reputation with judges, clerks, court personnel, consumers, and opposing counsel
Identify and address compliance concerns with the Director of Compliance and General Counsel
Support other attorneys and provide coverage for appearances as needed
Assist in developing, updating, and implementing Legal Department policies and procedures
Support Legal Department Manager with staff development and training
Track updates and trends related to statutory and case law, and localized court rules/procedures
Assist in the creation and maintenance of PPMS Policies and Work Instructions impacting the Legal Department
Document and log non-conformities with the Director of Compliance
Assist in developing and updating standard templates and common legal documents
Collaborate with other departments to evaluate process impacts and improve workflow, compliance, and efficiencies
Complete additional duties as assigned by leadership

Required

Bachelor's degree (or equivalent)
Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
Active license to practice law in the State of Colorado (required)
Ability to work independently and collaboratively within the Legal Department
Strong knowledge of civil procedure within assigned jurisdictions, including: Rules of Civil Procedure, Rules of Professional Conduct, Rules of Evidence, Local court rules/processes
Working knowledge of FDCPA, FCRA, TCPA, and HIPAA
General understanding of laws related to: Bankruptcy, Workers' compensation, Personal injury, Contracts, Insurance, Medicare/Medicaid
Excellent analytical, organizational, and time management skills
Strong legal research and multi-tasking skills
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining workflow standards
Maintain CLE requirements
Maintain a professional appearance and positive attitude

Preferred

Licensing in Colorado, Wyoming, and Nebraska
Trial experience preferred
