Legal Aid of Western Missouri is seeking a full-time Staff Attorney to join an innovative new initiative, Legal Aid in the Library. This role involves providing free civil legal services and engaging with the community to support legal advocacy and outreach efforts.

Responsibilities

Provide free civil legal services to income-eligible clients across a range of practice areas, including eviction defense, family law, consumer law, and public benefits

Collaborate closely with library staff to develop and deliver community presentations, outreach, and programming to help launch and grow the initiative

Engage with a wide variety of clients and partners throughout the day

Support outreach and community needs during some evening and weekend hours

Required

Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school

Active license to practice law in Missouri or eligibility for admission

Experience handling diverse civil matters

Comfort engaging with a wide variety of clients and partners

Willingness to work some evening and weekend hours for outreach and community needs

Preferred

Second language proficiency in a language commonly spoken by Legal Aid's clients or potential clients, including but not limited to Spanish, Arabic, Vietnamese, Somali or Dinka
