Power Systems Field Applications Engineer- Central US

Responsibilities
Act as the primary technical liaison between customers and internal engineering teams for transformer applications in commercial and industrial power systems
Provide pre-sale and post-sale technical support including equipment specification reviews, system studies, and design recommendations
Interpret customer requirements, standards, and electrical system conditions to support appropriate transformer design and application
Assist in preparing and reviewing technical proposals, including technical documentation, drawings, and compliance matrices
Support installation, testing, and commissioning of large power transformers in the field; conduct site visits as needed
Diagnose and troubleshoot technical issues related to transformer performance, operation, or integration
Collaborate with the product design team to communicate field feedback and contribute to product improvements
Deliver technical presentations and training to customers, engineering firms, and internal teams
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry standards (IEEE, ANSI, IEC, NERC, etc.), transformer technologies, and power system trends
Document and report all field service activities and technical findings
Analyze customer specifications and requirements to design and configure power electrical systems, focusing on voltage input and output connections
Develop one-line diagrams to outline system configurations for clients
Collaborate closely with the design and engineering teams to translate configurations into practical designs and detailed proposals
Provide technical support and consultancy to clients, ensuring solutions meet their operational and safety standards
Manage project costing in collaboration with the engineering manager to ensure budget compliance and profitability
Serve as the key point of contact for clients, enhancing customer relationships and ensuring high satisfaction levels
Travel to client sites as required to understand their systems, deliver presentations, and provide on-ground support
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or related field required
Minimum of 15 years of experience in transformer applications, power systems engineering, or related field
In-depth understanding of large power transformers (69kV and above), including design principles, ratings, and applications
Experience with commercial, industrial or utility power systems, protection schemes, and grid integration
Understand or have had experience with engineering study tools such as; ETAP EasyPower, SKM, ASPEN
Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences
Willingness and ability to travel up to 50% domestically (occasionally internationally)
Self-motivated with strong organizational and problem-solving skills
Proven experience in power systems engineering, specifically with electrical transformers and related components
Ability to understand electrical engineering software (e.g., ETAP, or similar)
Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to create detailed electrical system designs
Preferred
Master's degree in electrical engineering with focus on power systems
Professional Engineer (PE) license or eligibility
