Responsibilities

Administer and maintain SQL Server databases across production, staging, and development environments
Design, implement, and test backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies
Manage lower-environment refreshes , data masking, and environment synchronization
Monitor database health, performance metrics, and resource utilization; proactively resolve issues
Implement and maintain database security , including user access, role-based permissions, and audit compliance
Perform routine maintenance such as index optimization, statistics updates, and integrity checks
Plan and execute database upgrades, patches, and migrations with minimal downtime
Configure and support high availability and disaster recovery solutions (Always On, mirroring, log shipping, replication)
Troubleshoot performance issues, query bottlenecks, blocking, and deadlocks
Create and maintain SSIS packages supporting operational and data integration workflows
Collaborate with development teams on database design, schema changes, and query optimization
Maintain documentation including runbooks, configurations, and operational procedures
Participate in an on-call rotation for after-hours database support

Required

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
3–5 years of hands-on experience as a SQL Server DBA
Strong experience with backup/recovery, maintenance plans, and disaster recovery
Solid skills in performance tuning, query optimization, and execution plan analysis
Experience with SQL Server high availability and DR technologies
Understanding of database security, permissions, and compliance requirements
Familiarity with SQL Server monitoring tools and DMVs
Experience with T-SQL and/or PowerShell for automation
Strong troubleshooting skills and ability to communicate with both technical and non-technical stakeholders

Preferred

Healthcare or medical billing database experience
Knowledge of EDI processes (X12 837/835)
Exposure to Azure SQL Database or AWS RDS for SQL Server
Experience with DevOps or version control tools (Git, Azure DevOps)
SSIS administration and ETL process experience
Familiarity with HIPAA, SOC 2, or other compliance standards
Experience using database monitoring tools such as SQL Sentry, Redgate, or SolarWinds
