Responsibilities

Lead, prototype, and sustain AI/ML workflows for metadata, captioning, and large-scale text and media processing
Use advanced AI techniques to enhance search and access to collections
Collaborate with High Performance Computing for scalable, efficient AI solutions
Evaluate, document, and guide responsible AI practices, including transparency, bias mitigation, and sustainability
Collaborate with campus and external partners to identify AI opportunities
Explore emerging AI tools and techniques in areas like NLP and computer vision
Prototype and test new solutions to assess impact and feasibility
Help shape policies and strategies for responsible AI use in libraries
Create clear documentation for AI tools and workflows
Train and support staff and students on AI systems
Develop materials and reports to share project results and impact
Engage in professional development through research and presentations
Represent the Libraries in AI and digital library initiatives at all levels
Stay current on AI, ML, and digital library trends to guide local practices

Required

Master's degree in Library Science or a related field such as Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Data Science, or Digital Humanities, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Five years of related experience
Knowledge of academic library functions

Preferred

Experience working with digital libraries, repositories, data pipelines, artificial intelligence, machine learning tools, or related technologies
Experience working with digital collections, research data, or cultural heritage materials in libraries, archives, museums, or academic settings
Familiarity with artificial intelligence and machine learning concepts such as large language models, natural language processing, and Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG)
Experience with AI/ML frameworks and tools
Proficiency in at least one programming or scripting language
Knowledge of metadata standards and digital library platforms
Strong ability to learn and apply emerging technologies, collaborate effectively across teams, and communicate technical concepts clearly to audiences is essential, along with a commitment to ethical and sustainable AI solutions for cultural heritage and academic contexts
Ability to work in an environment with shifting priorities
Ability to take initiative and exercise independent judgment
Conflict resolution skills
Strong written, oral, and public communication skills, including representing the Libraries in professional settings
