Payroll Specialist

The Payroll Specialist will play a critical role in ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant payroll operations for a multi-state workforce, while also supporting benefits administration and collaborating with Accounting on payroll tax filings and audits.

Responsibilities
Process full-cycle, multi-state payroll for a growing organization of fewer than 300 employees
Ensure accurate calculation of wages, overtime, bonuses, deductions, and withholdings
Maintain payroll records in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations
Administer off-cycle payrolls as needed (bonuses, corrections, terminations, etc.)
Serve as the primary point of contact for payroll-related employee inquiries
Maintain strong knowledge of payroll laws, regulations, and best practices across multiple states
Partner with Accounting on payroll tax filings, reconciliations, and audits (including benefits & 401k)
Conduct Labor Allocation audits and ensure data accuracy
Support internal and external payroll-related audits
Assist with payroll compliance as the company expands into new states
Support benefits and 401k administration from a payroll perspective, including:
Payroll deductions and reconciliations
Carrier file reviews
Benefits-related reporting and audits
Collaborate with People / HR and Accounting to ensure payroll and benefits data alignment
Utilize payroll systems efficiently; experience with UKG is strongly preferred
Identify opportunities to improve payroll processes, controls, and documentation
Support scalability and process improvements as the company grows
Qualification
Required
Minimum of 3 years of hands-on payroll experience
Experience running multi-state or national payroll
Strong knowledge of payroll laws, compliance requirements, and best practices
High attention to detail with strong organizational and time-management skills
Ability to collaborate cross-functionally with Accounting and People / HR teams
Strong problem-solving skills and discretion with confidential information
Preferred
Experience with UKG and other major Payroll/HRIS systems
Experience supporting payroll in a growing or scaling organization
Healthcare or multi-state professional services experience a plus
