Attorney I
The North Carolina Department of Justice is seeking an Attorney I to provide litigation services and legal analysis to support complex legal matters. The role involves representing DAC in civil litigation, developing legal strategies, and providing legal advice to leadership.

Responsibilities
Represent DAC in civil litigation in state and federal courts, including appeals
Develop and execute legal strategies for cases of varying complexity
Draft pleadings, motions, discovery requests/responses, and settlement agreements
Conduct discovery, depositions, and persuasive arguments before judges and juries
Perform legal research and analyze statutes, case law, and regulations
Investigate case facts, review evidence, and interview witnesses
Provide legal advice and written opinions to DAC leadership
Assist with drafting and analyzing legislation impacting DAC operations
Prepare appellate briefs and conduct oral arguments in appellate courts
Respond to inquiries from citizens, officials, and legislators
Attend public hearings and client meetings as assigned
Qualification
Required
Licensed to practice law by the North Carolina State Bar
Interest or experience in federal court litigation
Litigation experience or strong interest in learning litigation
Excellent research, writing, and communication skills
Ability to manage litigation and deadlines and work collaboratively in a team environment
