Responsibilities
Develop detailed engineering designs for high-voltage transmission lines and associated infrastructure
Create specifications, drawings, and calculations for transmission equipment and structures
Manage and oversee transmission projects from concept to completion
Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including electrical designers, project managers, and construction teams
Performs project engineering and project management functions for assigned projects
Conduct load flow and system studies to optimize the performance and efficiency of the transmission system
Analyze the impact of new projects on the overall transmission network
Specify and select appropriate equipment for transmission systems, including transformers, circuit breakers, insulators, and conductors
Ensure equipment meets industry standards and project requirements
Stay abreast of industry codes, standards, and regulations related to transmission systems
Ensure all designs and projects comply with safety, environmental, and regulatory standards
Monitor and assess the reliability and performance of the transmission system
Identify and address any issues affecting system stability or efficiency
Conducts project design and cost alternative studies, field inspections, and prepares associated reports
Develop maintenance procedures and schedules for transmission equipment
Diagnose and troubleshoot issues with transmission components, recommending and implementing solutions
Prepares and manages cost estimates, budgets, schedules, material and construction specifications and construction contracts for projects assigned
Apply engineering application software to complete engineering tasks such as ground grid design, relay coordination, transformer sizing, and load flow and short circuit studies with minimal supervision
Implement and enforce safety protocols and procedures in the design, construction, and maintenance of transmission systems
Prepares plans, layouts, design calculations and related engineering design in accordance with applicable codes, ordinances, and regulations. Including Electrical Power Calculations
Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation related to transmission designs, projects, and maintenance activities
Collaborate with other engineering teams, regulatory authorities, and stakeholders to ensure the successful implementation of transmission projects
Work within a project team to create all design documents and drawings for a project, including creating wiring diagrams from schematics, generating bills of materials, and applying field mark-ups of project as-built drawings with minimal supervision
Assess and address environmental impacts associated with transmission projects, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or a related field
Professional Engineer (PE) license is often preferred
Relevant experience in transmission system design and maintenance
Proficiency in relevant engineering software and tools
Strong knowledge of power system engineering principles and practices
Experience in the design of additions, modifications, extensions, upgrades and rearrangements of company generation, transmission, substation, and communication and control systems and facilities
Ability to apply the minimum requirements of the National Electrical Safety Code to the Design Processes
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Project management and organizational skills
Familiarity with industry codes and standards
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Preferred
Professional Engineer (PE) license is often preferred
