Downtown Farmers' Market Events Intern

Greater Des Moines Partnership is seeking an Events Intern to assist the events team in preparing for various events, particularly the Downtown Farmers' Market. The intern will support event management tasks, vendor communication, and on-site operations from March through October, providing flexibility in working hours throughout the internship.

Responsibilities

Support Downtown Farmers’ Market Manager with weekly tasks that include merchandise restock, attendance and tracking and more
Lead the weekly food assistance program tasks for The Market
Learn all onsite functions of the Downtown Farmers’ Market throughout the summer to lead The Market onsite for one or two Saturdays. These functions include; unloading/loading of The Market truck, onsite vendor questions, lead setup and teardown of The Market, barricade program, signage program, and more
Help with Market vendor management which includes; updating vendor information on the event platform, credentials and vendor communication
Provide in-office event support for Events team, which includes inventory of event supplies, event production, communication with vendors, organization of internal documents, phone calls and more
Provide on-site event support at Out to Lunch and the World Food & Music Festival, which includes set up and tear down, transportation of supplies, on-site vendor communication, volunteer management and more
Establish and maintain relationships with local businesses, potential Market vendors, current Market vendors and volunteers
Distribute posters and other event marketing materials around the metro to event sponsors and supporters for The Market as needed

Ability to be the onsite leader, which includes vendor and volunteer management and make educated decisions, including task delegation in a collaborative way
Integrate the organization's business strategies by building positive internal and external relationships
Working towards Bachelor's degree in events, business or project management
Prior experience assisting at events
Working knowledge of Microsoft 365 products, including Outlook, SharePoint, Teams, Excel and Word
Written and verbal communication skills, including demonstrated ability to articulate the organization's philosophy and position to a wide range of audiences and to the media
Experience in interacting with the community, Investors and the internal teams
