Senior Tax Analyst

The Senior Tax Analyst will play a pivotal role in the tax preparation process, ensuring compliance with regulations and advocating for clients' financial well-being.
Responsibilities
As needed, support with client interviews to gather pertinent tax information and documents
Prepare accurate and complete tax returns for eligible individuals and families, ensuring compliance with VITA program standards
Maximize client benefits by identifying and applying all relevant tax credits and deductions
Perform comprehensive reviews of all tax returns to ensure accuracy and completeness before submission
Stay current of new and prior IRS regulations and updates, applying them to the tax preparation processes
Utilize internal checklists and quality review procedures to ensure error-free tax return preparation
Rectify any discrepancies or errors identified and amend tax returns as necessary, ensuring full compliance with IRS guidelines
Explain tax concepts, credits, and deductions to clients, ensuring they understand their tax situations and filings
Provide detailed guidance on the implications of the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC), Child Tax Credit (CTC), and other relevant tax benefits
Participate in ongoing training sessions provided by the VITA program to maintain a high level of proficiency in tax law
Engage in self-directed learning to stay ahead of tax code changes and best practices in tax preparation
Share knowledge gained with the team, contributing to the collective expertise of the organization
Demonstrate advanced proficiency in tax preparation software, utilizing its features for efficient and accurate tax filing
Implement data security protocols to protect sensitive client information, adhering to program guidelines and privacy regulations
Troubleshoot technical issues with software and assist clients and volunteers in navigating digital tools (as applicable)
Create a supportive and collaborative environment that encourages volunteer engagement and development
As appropriate support the volunteer(s) performance and provide constructive feedback to enhance the quality of tax preparation services
Support the tax and volunteer teams as needed in reporting on key performance indicators, such as total refunds secured, client satisfaction ratings, and volunteer engagement levels
Provide feedback and/or recommendations on the using data-driven insights to inform strategies for enhancing service delivery and client outcomes
Qualification
Required
Ten years of tax experience or Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field
Prior experience in tax preparation is required; certification in VITA/TCE at the advanced level required
In-depth knowledge of tax laws and regulations, with the ability to convey complex tax concepts in simple terms
Exceptional customer service skills and dedication to assisting low-to-moderate income individuals and families
Proficiency in tax preparation software and basic computer skills
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a diverse team
Ability to operate effectively in a diverse and fast paced work environment
Strong work ethic and enthusiasm for connecting individuals and families to tax services
Demonstrated ability to manage time efficiently and meet deadlines
Outstanding integrity, positive attitude, and self-direction
Ability to contribute to innovative ideas and effectively communicate them verbally and/or in writing
Ability to comprehend system wide strategy/vision and communicate it to team members
Ability to travel to various locations throughout the Philadelphia region
Ability to maintain confidential information
Ability to travel to and between tax site locations and to conferences/events as required
