The City of Whitehall is seeking a Tax Clerk to provide a variety of support to the Tax Department. The primary responsibilities include preparing and auditing tax returns, maintaining tax records, and assisting taxpayers with inquiries.

Responsibilities

Examines city income tax accounts for customers

Audits tax returns

Documents account payments; sends correspondence; responds to call and letters; records payment information in computer system; prepares and mails tax bills and notices of delinquent taxes; computes penalty and interest to be added

Collects taxes over the counter, by mail and online resources; writes receipts and enters payments into computer and/or cash register

Provides assistance to tax payers and the general public in researching records and provides general information on tax laws, policies and procedures

Researching tax records for non-collections; entering and correctly updating tax records; documenting changes to tax records, etc

Collect taxes over the counter, by mail and online resources, write receipts and enter payments into computer and/or cash register

Filing of tax forms, records and documents

Answering questions over the phone or through the City’s website

Develops reports, spreadsheets and other financial documents as directed

Required

Associate degree in Business Administration, Accounting or Finance and two (2) years' experience in either a payroll, accounting, and/or bookkeeping preferably in a tax office setting

A High School diploma or equivalent with four (4) years' experience in payroll, accounting, bookkeeping, or tax office setting

Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word
