Breakthrough Energy is seeking a dynamic and focused Director, Development and External Programs to join their GRIDS program. This role involves developing and executing a strategic plan to secure funding and build sustainable relationships with philanthropic partners, while leading a team to strengthen connections globally.

Responsibilities

Develop and execute a strategic plan to deliver relationship and funding target outcomes essential to program longevity and success
Partner closely with VP, GRIDS as well as other program leaders to execute objectives and achieve outcomes of the collective program team
Amplify existing GRIDS funding by developing and implementing a comprehensive approach to build a long-term network of committed philanthropic and charitable foundation partners who invest their time, influence, and capital in alignment with GRIDS program activities
Build a strong and measurable track record of productive and collaborative partnerships and impact with philanthropic individuals and charitable foundations. Forecast, measure, and report the results of the partner portfolio on an ongoing basis
Lead a team of individuals and participate directly in collaboratives, organizations or other entities that drive philanthropic investment in the GRIDS program objectives
Collaborate across all Breakthrough Energy efforts to align interaction with philanthropic partners across the BE and Gates Ventures portfolio
Build and lead on the ground teams in strategic locations globally to ensure relationship strength and connection in these regions where GRIDS is invested
Act as GRIDS team liaison to the communications arm within Breakthrough Energy

Required

Degree in economics, political science or similar degree desired
Deep knowledge and experience leading partnerships, business development, and/or related functions within high-paced, fast-growing organizations with a preference of at least 7 years of relevant experience
Strong track record of relationship building and collaboration across a diverse group of stakeholders, particularly in the climate space
Able to easily navigate diverse internal and external stakeholder groups
Exceptional negotiation, influencing, and verbal/written communication skills
Entrepreneurial orientation with experience thriving through ambiguity and change
Exhibit exceptional problem-solving skills, consistently finding creative and forward-looking solutions to complex challenges
Thrive in collaborative environments, actively participating and contributing to projects at all levels
Ability to travel domestically and internationally as required
Possess proficiency in utilizing the Microsoft suite of tools, including but not limited to PowerPoint, Outlook, Word, OneNote, Excel, and SharePoint, to perform job responsibilities effectively and efficiently

Preferred

Master's degree preferred
Leadership experience of at least 3 years preferred
Leadership of global teams ideal
The Denver, CO Area is the preferred location for this position; however, candidates must be based in a state where Breakthrough Energy is registered or already has an established presence
