Therapeutic Support Specialist

Magdalene House of Austin is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting and empowering women who have experienced sex trafficking and trauma. The Therapeutic Support Specialist is responsible for facilitating therapeutic group sessions, providing practical support to residents, and assisting with their overall well-being and recovery journey.

Responsibilities

Develop and facilitate therapeutic group sessions focused on trauma recovery, self-esteem building, and life skills
Create a safe and supportive environment for group participants to share and heal
Collaborate with the Program Director and mental health professionals to design and implement effective group curricula
Accompany residents on errands, appointments, and recreational activities, ensuring their safety and providing emotional support
Assist residents with daily living tasks as needed, fostering independence and self-sufficiency
Provide one-on-one support and mentoring to residents, helping them navigate challenges and celebrate successes
Maintain accurate and confidential records of group sessions and individual support interactions
Prepare regular reports on group progress and individual resident achievements for the Program Director
Build positive relationships with community partners and service providers to enhance support services for residents
Represent Magdalene House at community events and meetings as needed

Required

Master's degree in social work, psychology, counseling, or a related field preferred
Minimum of 2 years of experience in a therapeutic or support role, ideally with trauma survivors or vulnerable populations
Strong understanding of trauma-informed care and therapeutic techniques
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to build trust and rapport with residents while maintaining professional boundaries
Organizational skills and attention to detail in documentation and reporting
Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and independently when required
Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
Compassionate and empathetic with a genuine desire to support and empower women
Patient, adaptable, and able to handle stressful situations calmly
Commitment to the mission and values of Magdalene House
