Advanced Practice Provider, Internal Medicine-Nephrology

The Advanced Practice Provider in Internal Medicine-Nephrology will manage inpatient nephrology and dialysis patients, conduct comprehensive evaluations, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to enhance patient care and outcomes.

Responsibilities
Independently manage inpatient nephrology and dialysis patients within the scope of practice and in collaboration with nephrologists
Work independently to full scope of practice in compliance with the Texas Nurse Practice Act with acknowledgement of off-site collaborating physician availability for consultation and collaboration
Conduct comprehensive patient evaluations, including history-taking, physical examinations, and ordering/interpreting diagnostic tests
Develop and implement evidence-based treatment plans for acute and chronic kidney disease, hypertension, electrolyte disorders, and dialysis-related complications
Prescribe medications and therapies following best practice guidelines and regulatory standards
Provide education and counseling to patients and families regarding disease processes, treatment plans, and lifestyle modifications
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including physicians, nurses, dietitians, and social workers, to ensure optimal patient care
Participate in quality improvement projects aimed at enhancing patient outcomes and operational efficiency
Engage in teaching and mentoring opportunities for APPs, nurses, and other healthcare professionals
Maintain accurate documentation in electronic medical records (EMR) to ensure compliance with healthcare regulations and quality standards
Be an active participant in the Nephrology clinic team; work with faculty to identify opportunities to shift more stable patients to an APP to improve access for new patients, assist with triaging patients, and other clinic needs as time allows

Qualification
Required
Completion of a physician assistant program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA)
Certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)
Licensed Physician Assistant by the Texas Physician Assistant Board/Texas Medical Board (TPAB/TMB)
Completion of a graduate level (or higher) nurse practitioner program accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE)
Certification by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) or American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP)
Licensed Registered Nurse (RN) by the Texas Board of Nursing (TBON)
Licensed Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) in a nurse practitioner clinical area of specialization by the Texas Board of Nursing (TBON)
