Responsibilities
Align new product pipeline with the company’s overall growth strategy and revenue objectives
Evaluate new business opportunities, partners, technologies, products, and possible acquisition targets
Provide strategic vision for future pipeline growth and market differentiation
Foster a culture of innovation, encouraging teams to explore disruptive technologies
Direct end-to-end product development processes (ideation through commercialization), ensuring speed-to-market and technical rigor
Lead the New Product Review Process and stage-gate processes for new products and technologies
Integrate product verification/validation with regulatory and time-to-market goals; apply results to guide design improvements and mitigate risk
Oversee evaluation of competitive products to define product differentiation and unique value propositions
Communicate development progress and risks to executive leadership; secure stakeholder buy-in for major launches
Keep informed of state-of-the-art technology within the industry through participation in professional organizations and conferences
Remain accountable for budget, schedule, scope, quality, and delivery of all product development projects
Work closely with Marketing, Operations, Regulatory Affairs, Legal, and Finance, along with Premier Medical Manufacturing, to ensure new product development strategies are integrated with broader business activities
Build and inspire high-performing, multidisciplinary teams (internal and external) to deliver on company strategy
Ensure work aligns with company processes and industry standards
Direct regulatory/quality aspects of product development, including design control, 510ks, risk assessment/FMEA, and communications with agencies
Apply a risk-based approach to all applicable elements of the Quality Management System
Qualification
Required
PhD required in chemistry, engineering, or a related scientific discipline; MBA a plus
15+ years of progressively responsible management experience in research and development (dental preferred; medical device required)
Solid understanding of scientific disciplines and concepts apart from the candidate's own
Proven success aligning product pipelines with corporate growth strategies
Demonstrated history of bringing products to market
Demonstrated success managing multidisciplinary teams (chemists, engineers, clinicians, regulatory, marketing)
Demonstrated success establishing an innovative culture, encouraging creativity, speed-to-market, and technical rigor
Strong knowledge of design control (ISO 13485), risk management (ISO 14971), biocompatibility (ISO 10993), GLP/GMP practices, and medical device regulations (US, Canada, EU)
Comprehensive knowledge of P&L, cost reduction programs, capital/operations budgeting, and product portfolio management
Exceptional leadership, presentation, and stakeholder management skills
Ability to motivate and support others in a fast-paced environment
Ability to translate customer insights into product innovation
Broad familiarity with verification and validation methods (mechanical, chemical, microbiological, clinical/simulated use, process validation, statistical methods)
Experience with manufacturing scale-up and commercialization processes
Strong skills in root cause analysis, CAPA, and post-market surveillance
Analytical, data-driven decision making
Adaptability and comfort managing change in fast-moving, innovative environments
