Engineering Manager

As an Engineering Manager, you will lead and mentor software engineering teams to develop high-quality veterinary software, ensuring effective collaboration and communication in a remote work environment.

Responsibilities

Manage a team of senior and mid-level software engineers specializing in React/Typescript, GraphQL, Elixir, and AWS
Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and career development support to team members
Conduct regular 1:1 meetings to discuss performance, goals, and career growth
Conduct performance reviews and provide constructive feedback
Foster a collaborative and inclusive team environment, promoting knowledge sharing and open communication
Champion our remote-first culture, ensuring effective communication and collaboration across distributed team members
Collaborate with product managers and other stakeholders to define project scope, timelines, and deliverables. Monitor project progress, identify potential roadblocks, and implement solutions
Identify and implement technical and process improvements to enhance team efficiency and productivity
Participate in the hiring process for engineering roles, including interviewing candidates
Onboard new team members and provide them with the resources and support they need to succeed

Required

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent experience
3+ years of experience managing remote software engineering teams
5+ years of experience as a full-stack software engineer, preferably with experience in our technology stack (React/Typescript, GraphQL, Elixir, AWS)
Proven ability to lead, mentor, and motivate engineering teams
Comfortable providing constructive feedback and celebrating success
Strong understanding of software development methodologies (e.g., Agile, Scrum)
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills
Experience working in a remote-first environment
Passion for building high-quality software and fostering a positive team culture

Preferred

Deep knowledge of Elixir or Erlang for back-end development and Typescript/React for front-end development
Experience in the Veterinary industry
