Senior Plastics Molding Engineer

They are seeking a Senior Plastics Molding Engineer to provide hands-on leadership in plastic injection molding, tooling, and supplier development, supporting the global supply chain and collaborating with various teams and external partners.
Responsibilities
Serve as the plastics molding and tooling subject matter expert for strategic and sustaining sourcing initiatives
Lead technical execution for supplied product changes, supplier transfers, tooling launches, and process improvements
Provide Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DFM/DFA) guidance for plastic components and assemblies
Support tooling strategy for plastic components including SPI Class 101, 102, and 103 molds
Lead mold and tooling design activities in collaboration with global suppliers
Conduct and support Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) for injection molds and manufacturing cells
Oversee tooling validation and supplier manufacturing cell validation (IQ/OQ/PQ)
Manage tooling repairs, refurbishments, and replacements for company-owned assets at supplier sites
Contribute to long-term supplier tooling asset planning and replacement strategies
Proactively identify and mitigate risks within the global polymer and plastics supply chain
Support supplier selection and qualification for medical device materials, components, and assemblies
Partner with Global Category Managers to drive cost reduction, supply continuity, and risk reduction initiatives
Support make vs. buy analyses and identify insourcing and outsourcing opportunities
Assist suppliers with tooling and equipment capacity planning aligned with demand forecasts
Lead cross-functional teams to resolve complex supplier quality, tooling, and manufacturing issues
Apply structured problem-solving methodologies, root cause analysis, and corrective/preventive actions
Research plastic resins and raw materials and recommend alternatives when appropriate
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's Degree in Plastics Engineering, Engineering Technology, or equivalent required
10+ years of experience in plastic injection molding manufacturing engineering and tooling
3+ years in medical device manufacturing or another highly regulated industry
3+ years in a supplier-facing role (Supply Chain Engineering, Supplier Development, or Supplier Quality preferred)
Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt strongly preferred
Deep practical knowledge of injection mold design, build, repair, and maintenance
Strong understanding of machining tolerances, mold steels, heat treating, plating, and tolerance stack-ups
Hands-on experience with Scientific Injection Molding principles
Experience with medical device or other regulated manufacturing validation processes (IQ/OQ/PQ)
Ability to lead cross-functional technical teams and supplier engagements
Proficiency in GD&T, FMEA, engineering drawings, and manufacturing documentation
Strong project management skills with moderate to high complexity initiatives
Excellent verbal, written, and presentation communication skills
SolidWorks or equivalent CAD
Mold flow or molding simulation tools
Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint
Smartsheet and PLM systems
Preferred
3+ years in a supplier-facing role (Supply Chain Engineering, Supplier Development, or Supplier Quality preferred)
