6+ years expThe State of Nebraska is seeking an Accounting And Finance Manager for the Department of Water, Energy & Environment. This role is responsible for budgeting, accounting, and auditing funds for agency programs while ensuring compliance with legislative and regulatory requirements.
Government Administration
Responsibilities
Oversee the agency’s financial management, reporting, and compliance functions
Coordinates budget development and monitoring
Prepares and approves required state and federal financial reports
Ensure accurate, timely financial statements that include Clean Water and Drinking Water State Revolving Fund statements
Responds to audits and internal controls coordinator
Manages indirect cost rate calculations
Oversee payroll, contracts, and program-specific financial reporting
Disseminates financial information to leadership
Ensures compliance with legislative, grant, and regulatory requirements while supporting agency management through clear financial analysis, metrics, and reporting
Foster a positive and collaborative work environment, promoting teamwork, open communication, and professional growth
Set goals, monitor employee performance, provide feedback, conduct performance evaluations of employees and provide coaching to improve productivity and career development
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree with emphasis in accounting, mathematics, statistics, or economics
Six years accounting experience, two years of which have been in an administrative supervisory capacity
Accounting experience may be substituted for college on a year-for-year basis for up to two years
Graduate study in the above-listed academic fields may be substituted for general experience on a year-for-year basis
Valid driver's license or ability to provide independent transportation
Minimal travel with occasional overnight travel
Ability to maintain regular and reliable attendance
Submit a resume or list on the application specific detailed experience relevant to the position in years and months
Submit a current list of at least professional references (previous employers) with valid telephone numbers
Preferred
Supervisory, Management or Project Lead Experience with Strong management background
Experience working with Local, state and federal governments
Experience with Budget management and development
Experience with process improvement
Supervisory experience of professional staff including ensuring that knowledge and communication with staff is applied consistently, assigning and prioritizing multiple staff projects, ensuring workload deadlines are met, training, evaluating job performance, gain and maintain the confidence of coworkers and maintaining effective working relationships
2 years' direct experience preferred
Communicate effectively in writing and orally to people with diverse backgrounds, interests, and viewpoints
