Manufacturing Engineer - Operations

RTX is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to support their Riverside, CA location, focusing on the fabrication of advanced composite structures for commercial and military platforms. This role involves hands-on experience in composite bonding and assembly operations, assisting experienced engineers and manufacturing teams to improve processes impacting quality and efficiency.

Responsibilities

Work 2nd shift hours (3pm – 11:30pm) Monday - Friday
Assist operators in the fabrication of composite structures including composite layup, laser projection systems, ply cutting and kitting, CNC machining, tooling, robotic automation, equipment programing and other typical composite bond processes
Own creation and maintenance of manufacturing process documents (routings, bill of materials, visual aids, standard work)
Ensure sequences in manufacturing processes and product builds are followed and comply with Environmental Health & Safety and Quality requirements
Investigate root cause of process failures or quality issues and develops go-forward approach
Use data analytics / statistical process control (SPC) for productivity, First Pass Yield (FPY) and business unit targets and improvement
Engage in problem solving initiatives & challenges status quo (e.g. root cause and corrective action investigations, OEE, FPY, customer escapes)
Interface with fellow manufacturing engineers, structures design engineers, engineering management, operations, shop floor personnel, and external vendors. Assists senior manufacturing technical staff in cross-discipline technical initiatives involving design, quality, equipment, testing, Material Review Board (MRB) and Materials & Process engineers
Participate and contribute on Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (PFMEA) and control build plans. Identifies opportunities on drawings and specifications to influence changes to engineering designs and line balancing
Participate in tool design reviews to ensure tools are feasible and reduce build times and program costs during fabrication
Participate in process improvement and continuous improvement activities. Implements results of lean manufacturing initiatives
Implement process improvements by applying various engineering applications such as: robotics, automation and simulation
Participate in digital manufacturing solutions with support from digital subject matter experts
Preform other duties as assigned

Required

Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 1 year of relevant experience
Experience reading and interpreting material and process' specifications, engineering drawings, technical reports, manuals, layups and work instructions
Experience or understanding of Machine Operation and/or mechanical repairs
Experience Utilizing MS Office/Excel software

Preferred

Experience using CATIA V5/V6 and 3DExperience Software Suite
Experience using CATIA's Composite Workbench or FiberSim NX
Experience with composite Materials and (Non-Destructive Inspections) techniques and methods
Experience with high-rate manufacturing methods
