Responsibilities

Responsible for organizing advanced functions and activities related to environmental management and water quality for assigned facilities
Responsible for maintaining all applicable lab certifications, accreditations, or approvals to conduct compliance and process quality control work
Implements the day to day collection of water quality samples
Implements programs to ensure compliance with all water quality and environmental regulations
Assists in resolving treatment issues
Manage monitoring and reporting programs to ensure compliance with federal and state water quality and environmental regulations and company standards for assigned facilities
Conduct advanced sampling and/or analysis and special projects
Obtain, prepare, file and maintain all regulatory reports and records
Manage required permits and make any necessary modifications and renewals
Participate in internal and external audits and represent American Water with regulators and customers
Identify potential issues and problems and initiate responsive actions and mitigate environmental violations
Supervise, monitor, and calibrate analyzers/equipment, etc. to ensure established standards of performance and accuracy are maintained
Conduct advanced projects and prepare reports as needed
Investigate and respond to escalated water quality complaints or concerns
Responsible for planning, preparing and controlling the portion of the financial plan relating to responsibilities

Required

Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Biology, Chemistry or related discipline preferred
High School Diploma and GED required
Minimum Five (5) year's experience in water, wastewater, and laboratory operations preferred
Must have a valid driver license
Knowledge of federal and state environmental standards and regulations and understanding of current environmental legislation and regulations
Regulatory knowledge of proper lab analytical testing methods
Must understand principles of water and/or wastewater treatment and be able to troubleshoot systems
General knowledge of water distribution systems
Detail-Oriented: Conduct thorough analyses and evaluations and implement timely decisions and recommendations
Independent Worker: Manage time across multiple projects and deadlines
Collaborative: Seek input and coordinate with staff
Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills
Technical Proficiency: Good working knowledge of computer programs, databases, and software
Organizational Skills: Demonstrated organizational and administrative abilities
Must be comfortable operating independently and has the confidence to make real-time decisions without constant supervision
Local and regional travel in the field around New Cumberland, PA
Rare overnight travel may be required
This role will be 60% field work and 40% office based
This role will require you to report into our office 5 days a week at 275 Steigerwalt Hollow Rd New Cumberland PA
Must be able to wear job required PPE for prolonged periods
Must work in a safe and productive manner at all times

Preferred

Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Biology, Chemistry or related discipline preferred
Minimum Five (5) year's experience in water, wastewater, and laboratory operations preferred
Highly proficient in the Microsoft Office 365 Suite; Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel
Expertise in resolving in-person customer grievances by identifying the root cause and providing creative, timely solutions that align with company policy
