Engineering Technician - Surveyor

SIMCO, LLC is managing and operating the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP), the nation’s only repository for the disposal of nuclear waste. They are seeking an Engineering Technician - Surveyor to collect geotechnical data, assist engineers, and support underground inspections and hazard mitigation efforts.

Responsibilities

Collect geotechnical instrumentation and field data in the WIPP underground
Process that same data using computer and database systems
Fabricate and install instrumentation
Assist engineers and technical professionals in data collection and processing
Support underground openings inspections
Identify potential ground condition hazards and mitigation of these hazards
Walk on even and uneven surfaces
Climb ladders, steps and inclines
Qualify to work underground
Accurately read dials and gauges
Follow procedures
Properly and accurately record readings
Operate computers and maintain computer databases
Qualify to operate diesel and electrical lift equipment
Lift up to 20 pounds and perform overhead work
Drilling, survey laser alignments, alignment point installations, and instrument and cable installations
Use of Theodolite, survey levels, and electronic distance measurement devices
Qualify to work underground and in radiological contaminated areas

Required

High School Graduate or Equivalency is required
Two (2) years underground experience with successful completion of a competency test in basic math is required
Must be at least 18 years of age
U.S. citizenship is required except in limited circumstances
Candidates must be able to walk on even and uneven surfaces
Candidates must be able to climb ladders, steps and inclines
Candidates must qualify to work underground
Candidates must accurately read dials and gauges
Candidates must follow procedures
Candidates must properly and accurately record readings
Candidates must be capable of operating computers and maintain computer databases
Candidates must qualify to operate diesel and electrical lift equipment
Candidates must be able to lift up to 20 pounds and perform overhead work
Candidates must be able to perform drilling, survey laser alignments, alignment point installations, and instrument and cable installations
