Responsibilities
Provide a range of legal services to victims of domestic and dating violence, child abuse, sexual assault, human trafficking, and stalking, including legal assistance, referrals, compensation support, representation, and self-help guidance
Offer legal advice, counsel, and referrals through TAP’s legal phone lines
Obtain protective orders and other court orders to enhance client safety and prevent re-victimization
Assist victims, law enforcement, and judges in Travis County in understanding legal options following an arrest, and support the processing of MOEPs, CVC claims, and SAVNS enrollments
Plan and deliver trainings to judges, law enforcement, advocates, and other stakeholders to expand TAP’s reach and promote statewide best practices
Perform other duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school
Active license to practice law in Texas
Experience in providing legal services to victims of domestic and dating violence, child abuse, sexual assault, human trafficking, and stalking
Strong understanding of family law and civil legal matters
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work collaboratively with law enforcement, judiciary, and community stakeholders
Commitment to the mission and values of Texas Advocacy Project
Preferred
Experience in training or public speaking
Familiarity with legal aid organizations or non-profit work
Bilingual in English and Spanish
