Chief Development Officer

Responsibilities

Develop, implement, and lead a comprehensive fundraising strategy that supports the organization's mission, strategic plan, and long-term sustainability
Direct and oversee all fundraising activities, including major gifts, individual giving, grants (foundation and corporate), corporate partnerships, special events, and donor stewardship
Serve as a key organizational spokesperson and relationship manager with donors, foundations, corporate partners, and community stakeholders
Partner closely with the Chief Executive Officer and Board of Directors to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward prospects
Lead, supervise, and evaluate the development team, ensuring clear goals, accountability, and professional growth
Create and manage corporate giving strategy, including the writing and submission of grants as needed
Ensure accurate tracking, reporting, and analysis of fundraising data to inform strategy and decision-making
Oversee donor communications, including appeals, reports, acknowledgments, and impact storytelling, ensuring alignment with child welfare best practices and ethical standards
Maintain department policy and procedures
Serve as member of Board Fundraising Committee, including preparing reports for committee
Manage global staff communication related to the department
Monitor trends in philanthropy, child welfare funding, and donor engagement to adapt strategies proactively
Represent the organization at community events, donor meetings, and public forums as required
Manage media and brand strategy, including media partner relationships
Maintain records in donor database for corporate partnerships
Adhere to the Association of Fundraising Professionals Code of Ethical Principles and the Donor Bill of Rights
Perform other duties as assigned, which are consistent with the general responsibilities of the position

Required

Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Business, or related field of study from an accredited college or university
Minimum of 7 years' progressive experience in the fundraising field with a proven track record of fundraising, management, and supervision
Knowledge of fundraising and development strategies focusing on donor development
Knowledge of marketing practices related to non-profit fundraising
Competency in administrative, management and supervisory techniques
Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively
Ability to take direction, prioritize tasks and delegate to staff
Must have strong organization skills and must be able to work in a diverse, multi-cultural environment
Must have ability to maintain confidentiality; and exhibit mature judgment and emotional stability
Ability to understand and respond appropriately to requests
Effectively handle emergency situations and safely perform duties despite distractions
Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills in the English language
Ability to interact well with various levels of staff and with guests of AzCA
Ability to read, comprehend and interpret complex information
Ability to work in a variety of environments in and outdoors with various obstacles, stairs and unknown conditions
Must be physically capable to administer approved behavioral management techniques as applicable
Must be able to physically demonstrate competency in the following areas: operate an agency transport vehicle (unless declared a non-driver)
Able to operate common office equipment and be proficient with Raiser's Edge Fundraising Software, calendaring, word processing and other needed computer and electronic devise skills
Must be 21 years of age (licensing requirement)
Possess a valid Arizona driver's license and be insurable under the agency's automobile policy
Must be able to provide own transportation to and from clients' homes and/or other relevant organizations/agencies
Must be able to provide DPS fingerprint clearance
Must be able to meet training and agency compliance requirements for the position

CFRE certification highly desirable (not required)
