Category Manager

Responsibilities
Effective administration of material requirements for placement of purchase orders in raw material commodity, resulting in successful support of corporate objectives by working closely with engineering, production planning, finance, materials, management, senior leadership, and other key personnel to ensure that requirements to support corporate objectives are adhered to by suppliers
Quote and source all metals (Hot roll/Cold roll carbon steel, stainless, brass, nickel, zinc alloy, Aluminum, etc.)
Expedite Materials as required – work with materials manager
Outside Processing sourcing – work with internal stakeholders to determine what is needed and find those suppliers organically
Keeps abreast of all price changes, sources, market condition, availability and lead times of single point commodity. Update Material Price tracker in TEAMS. Update and inform management of market trends in metals, pricing, demand, supply
Reviews requests for quotations and/or requisitions for selected commodity
Performs the administration of long-term agreements, purchases and negotiates prices on raw materials and outside processes at the lowest price consistent with desired quality to meet specific requirement date. Experience with hedging raw materials using LME/CRU/etc
Clears and approves invoices and answers any questions from Finance team on pricing
Negotiates payments terms, FOB terms
Makes plant visits to supplier production facility whenever situation warrants. Provide assistance to suppliers as required to achieve objectives
Host potential suppliers in house and provide them details/data needed to quote
Place spot buy orders – place all non-stock PO’s
Investigates the possibility of improving quality without price increase or substituting a lower cost item
Establishes and maintain effective communication with all plants including Mexico to support their needs and to provide strong functional leadership. Assist materials group as needed
Experience with automotive PPAP requirements. Tracks PPAP submissions for new programs – especially with outside processing suppliers
Help resolve supply chain non-conformances like quality and delivery problems
Analyze scrap sales. Maintain inventory of amount shipped to assure credit received monthly/weekly with current scrap processor
Establish and execute cost saving targets
Experience with Plant/Union environment
Engage with outside suppliers to keep updated on quotes, changes, pricing, quality, shipping etc
Maintain good organization of files, RFQ’s, PO’s, quotes, drawings, STP Files -
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university
3 - 6 years competitive buying experience in raw materials and outside process within OEM manufacturing environment
Demonstrated ability to understand and interpretation of metals market reports
