Project System Safety Engineer
Oceaneering is a global provider of engineered services and products, primarily to the offshore energy industry. The Project System Safety Engineer will apply systems engineering fundamentals to ensure safety in submersible systems, contribute to design and safety analysis, and guide engineering efforts focused on system safety.

Responsibilities
Apply knowledge, methodologies and principles of safety engineering as defined in MIL-STD-882 to ensure design of systems, associated support equipment and facilities, networks and information systems meet applicable safety specifications and standards
Participate in development of system design, hardware, software, testing, and operating procedures to identify, track, and control or eliminate hazards
Contribute to development of RAM (reliability, availability and maintainability) design artifacts from a system safety perspective, including Failure Modes, Effects and Criticality Analyses (FMECA) and Fault Tree Analyses (FTA)
Own all system and software safety deliverables, ensuring their completeness, accuracy, and timely completion, including:
System and Software Safety Plans
System and Software Safety Analyses and Reports
Hazard Tracking System (HTS)
Prepare and lead recurring customer-facing System and Software Safety Working Group (WG) meetings
Prepare and present safety engineering slides at major design reviews and other milestone and key event meetings
Qualification
Required
BS Degree in Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related technical field. Commensurate experience will be considered
Minimum 7 years of experience practicing System Safety Engineering
Working knowledge of MIL-STD 882 “Department of Defense Standard Practice System Safety” or equivalent standard
Demonstrated ability to identify and articulate hazards in a “system of systems”, understanding the sometimes complex inter-relationships between hazards
Must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of leadership and work independently
Must have demonstrated and be willing to independently manage multiple tasks with various stakeholders in parallel i.e., assess design changes, field reported issues, system deficiencies, ‘pop-up' tasking, etc
Must be independently motivated to learn new methods / practices of analysis
Must be a US citizen
Must have ability to obtain and maintain United States Government Department of Defense (DoD) Secret Clearance
Strong capabilities within the Microsoft 365 environment
Comfortable using collaboration tools (e.g., Teams, SharePoint, Jira, Confluence)
Preferred
Work experience with US Department of Defense (DoD) or the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA)
Ability to grow / enhance a process or product by applying your own unique skillset and perspective
Experience in the areas of risk management or reliability engineering
Familiarity with Earned Value Management System principles and practices
An active DoD Secret clearance or higher
May be widely recognized for achievements, technical expertise, and professional standing within selected field
Working knowledge with a Systems Engineering Data Book (SEDB) tool (e.g., CRADLE, DOORS)
Working knowledge of a Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) tool (e.g., Model Center, Cameo)
