District Sign Technician I - IV (Midland)
The Texas Department of Transportation is seeking dedicated and skilled individuals to join their team as District Sign Technicians in Midland, TX. The role involves maintaining and installing roadway signs, supports, and delineators to ensure safety and compliance with traffic control standards.
Government Administration
Responsibilities
Assists transportation maintenance crews with maintenance-related work as required; may respond to assist with emergency situations/conditions
Moves equipment, tools, materials, and products
Issues signs to maintenance sections/transportation crews; uses tools and equipment and moves signs and related materials
Maintains expense records and inventory of materials, supplies, and equipment
Mixes and places concrete for sign support foundations; moves cement bags and other items related to these duties
Operates a boom and bucket truck and/or specialized sign truck to install roadway signs
Performs and maintains inventory of signs
Performs preventive maintenance on sign truck
Repairs and installs signs, supports, foundations, and delineators in accordance with Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) and other departmental guidance
Performs other job responsibilities as assigned
Orders supplies and materials from district shop
Conducts nighttime luminaire inspections to ensure reflectivity of signs, delineators, stripping, and retroreflective pavement markers (RPMs)
Inspects roadways to identify sign and delineator deficiencies and recommend repairs
Measures and calculates amount of materials needed
May serve as a work crew project lead ensuring work performed meets project specifications
Trains other technicians on sign installation and safety procedures
Orders signs from the regional sign shop
Coordinates and conducts nighttime luminaire inspections to ensure reflectivity of signs, delineators, stripping and retroreflective pavement markers (RPMs)
Coordinates and inspects roadways to identify sign and delineator deficiencies and recommends repairs
Coordinates, performs and maintains inventory of signs
Measures and calculates amount of materials needed
Qualification
Required
No formal education required
District Sign Tech I: No Experience Required
District Sign Tech II: 1 year sign installation and/or repair, roadway maintenance, construction, transportation engineering support, heavy equipment operation, or related work experience. (Experience can be satisfied by fulltime or prorated parttime equivalent.)
District Sign Tech III: 2 years sign installation and/or repair, roadway maintenance, construction, transportation engineering support, heavy equipment operation, or related work experience. (Experience can be satisfied by fulltime or prorated parttime equivalent.)
District Sign Tech IV: 5 years in sign installation and/or repair, roadway maintenance, construction, transportation engineering support, heavy equipment operation, or related work experience. (Experience can be satisfied by fulltime or prorated parttime equivalent)
Valid driver's license at the time of application. This position requires driving a state vehicle
Must have a Commercial Class 'A' Driver's License without transmission restrictions and an 'N' Endorsement or have obtained a CDL 'A' License, within 120 calendar days from date of employment
Must have or obtain an 'N' endorsement within 30 days of either obtaining the Class A CDL or within 30 days of the date of hire

Required to wear personal protective equipment provided by employer and comply with all safety requirements
Must be able to report for duty within 30 minutes of notification on a 24-hour basis to respond to emergency situations
