Responsibilities
The Lab Assistant performs various tasks in the laboratory which support the department in patient care including specimen receiving and processing, specimen accessioning, specimen distribution, and performing and resulting specific moderate complex test procedures
Complies with organization’s C.A.R.E.S. standards
Qualification
Required
High school diploma or equivalent
Current Louisiana license as a Laboratory Assistant
License can be applied for upon verification of competency for testing to be performed
Must successfully complete in-house training under close supervision of Medical Technologist
Basic knowledge of computers, printers and laboratory equipment
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work independently
Experience working in controlled environment, following safety measures to minimize exposure to chemicals, body fluids, blood borne pathogens, etc
Analytical skills to collect data, perform calculations, maintain system logs and operate laboratory computer equipment
Ability to multitask – performing several tasks in parallel and following each through to completion
Must possess good physical health
Some requirements include but are not limited to standing, sitting or walking for long periods of time
Lifting at least 50 pounds is required
Must be able to work with a moderate level of noise
