Responsibilities

In conjunction with Product Managers, develops and implements an annual marketing plan / design strategy for existing and new customers, including the identification of current and new possible product categories and products
Identifies, understands, and defines with conviction seasonal knitwear trends and color, yarn, and stitch direction. Conduct research through retail shopping, review of industry media and trade show attendance
The Knitwear Designer works ahead of seasonal T&A ensuring all Pre-Development design related dates are met and strictly follows a development calendar by season and account
Demonstrates trends by designing and developing boards, knit downs and samples in advance of seasonal customer meetings, to direct and affect development.Trend presentations can be supplemented with retail samples
Partners with Product Managers on the development and implementation of seasonal design strategies for key accounts, based on the accounts design and development requirements, trends in the marketplace and DZ’s resources
These design strategies include identifying:
Customer opportunities based on trend research
Customer voids in market
Creative ideas, concepts & designs that speak directly to key accounts
The design strategies will be synchronized with seasonal trends, customers’ needs, and the strengths of the company
Presents cohesive work that conveys trends from initial research through design meetings as well as formal customer presentations
Responsible for applying technical and creative knowledge to the cost engineering of the garments to satisfy customer needs and maintaining desired aesthetic
Responsible for maintaining customer relations & thoroughly understanding their products, brand image, pricing, and expectations
Assist production team to review and critique development packs and/or samples from technical/design perspective
As necessary - travels to China to visit DZ offices, trade show in Europe and China, as well as factories

Required

Minimum 5 years Knitwear experience
BFA from an accredited Fashion Design School
Advanced ability to recognize, creatively interpret, and influence seasonal trends for the product the company produces, through boards and/or product presentations
Thorough knowledge of knitting machinery, stitches, and technical terminology
Good knowledge of imported sweater manufacturing process
Advanced ability to sketch/spec/measure, as well as technical knowledge of sweaters and of knitting process, to teach, and direct design team members in their work and/or communicate with customer
Excellent time-management, multi-tasking, and ability to prioritize projects
Ability to understand and anticipate customers' wants and needs
Excellent presentation skills
Great problem-solving skills and a cool head under pressure, good administrative and organizational skills
Excellent understanding of the marketing function and ability to support it through collaboration with marketing executives
Excellent computer skills, proficient in CAD, Illustrator, Photoshop, Google Docs, Slides

Preferred

Experience in Women's, Men's and Kid's wear is a plus
Experience with China based production is a plus
