Colorado Springs Utilities is seeking an Electrical Engineer III to join their Electrical Distribution Planning team. This role involves collaborating on a variety of projects to forecast and plan for the electric distribution systems, while also developing long-range plans to enhance the reliability of the grid serving over 500,000 customers.

Responsibilities

Performing circuit analysis reviews for loading, phase balancing, voltage, reactive power, protection coordination, and contingency planning using Synergi-Electric modeling software

Developing system improvement alternatives in collaboration with other Distribution Planners and Operations personnel to move forward into the study plan with justification and cost estimates for the capital budget

Providing distribution design reviews, technical training, and project support to design engineers and other key stakeholders

Supporting Synergi-Electric model maintenance activities, including maintaining equipment databases, providing clean-up scripts, troubleshooting issues, and data validation

Supporting electric distribution planning, protection, and design guides with criteria analysis for electrification, Electric Vehicles (EV), Distributed Energy Resource (DER), and general improvements

Supporting the planning team in long-term small area forecast studies and strategies using LoadSEER forecasting tool

Required

Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering

Demonstrated experience in electric distribution system planning, operations engineering, system protection, power systems design standards, or a related area

Preferred

Experience with data modeling, SQL queries, and/or Python scripts

Experience using Synergi-Electric

Possession of an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) and/or Professional Engineer (PE) license
