Haight Brown & Bonesteel LLP is a premier California defense litigation firm seeking an experienced Human Resources Manager to lead HR operations across five statewide offices. The role involves managing HR functions, ensuring compliance with California employment laws, and serving as a trusted advisor to the firm's attorneys and staff.

Responsibilities
Manage day-to-day HR functions across five California offices, ensuring consistent practices and responsive service
Ensure firmwide compliance with California's complex employment laws, including wage and hour regulations, leaves of absence (CFRA, FMLA, PDL), accommodations, and employee classifications
Serve as a trusted advisor to attorneys and staff on performance management, workplace concerns, and sensitive personnel matters
Oversee benefits programs, coordinate with vendors, and manage annual open enrollment
Maintain and update employee handbooks and HR policies to reflect current California law
Oversee payroll processing, ensure accuracy and compliance with California wage and hour requirements, and coordinate with finance
Responsible for keeping firm’s MCLE records, including attendance rosters and evaluations
Supervise and develop an HR Assistant to support departmental operations
Qualification
Required
10+ years of progressive HR experience with demonstrated growth in responsibility
Strong working knowledge of California employment law, including wage and hour, leaves, accommodations, and worker classifications
Experience supporting multi-location operations
Hands-on operational HR background (not solely strategic or advisory roles)
Sound judgment and a practical, steady approach to employee relations
Ability to work independently as the firm's HR leader
Commitment to working on-site in downtown Los Angeles
Preferred
Law firm or professional services industry experience (accounting, consulting, architecture)
Workplace investigation experience
HR certification (SHRM-CP/SCP, PHR/SPHR, or SHRM California Law HR Specialty Credential)
Experience with HRIS platforms (ADP or similar)
