The State of North Carolina's Department of Transportation is seeking an Engineering Technician I to support construction and surveying activities. This entry-level position involves various technical tasks, including inspection and testing, while providing an opportunity for professional growth through an apprenticeship program.

Performing a wide variety of standardized and non-standardized tests and assignments in compiling, analyzing, computing, editing, and processing field data

Performing a full range of calculations and computations

Required

High School diploma/General Educational Development diploma

Currently in the process of acquiring an Associate degree in Civil Engineering Technology or Survey/Geomatics Technology or assigned discipline from an appropriately accredited institution

4000 hours of OJT

2596 hours of related instruction (Community College AAS degree)

Ability to perform a full range of calculations and computations

Ability to safely perform manual tasks involving the bush axe and other tools on steep and rough terrain

Ability to carry testing equipment over rough and steep terrain

Ability to lift and carry at least 50 pounds

Ability to legally operate a motor vehicle

Ability to communicate with other staff to ensure that tasks are completed correctly and in a timely manner

Proficient in record keeping and engineering testing equipment
