Responsibilities
Directing the day-to-day activity of operators on your assigned crew, including scheduling work assignments, monitoring the operator training process, and assisting with training as necessary
Communicate the local action plan; explain how this relates to the function’s strategy and action plan and to the broader organization’s mission and vision; motivate people to achieve local business goals. Guiding, counseling, and motivating operators in the field
Works with full competence to monitor, interpret and understand policies and procedures and ensure their alignment with organizational strategies and work objectives. Typically works without supervision and may provide technical guidance
Develop and propose own performance objectives; take appropriate actions to ensure achievement of agreed objectives, using the organization’s performance management systems to improve personal performance. Or manage and report on team performance; set appropriate performance objectives for direct reports or project team members
Works at an advanced level to manage and apply safe systems of work. Handling and resolving environmental issues (e.g., flaring, releases, odors, community complaints, etc.) Responding to all emergencies. Promoting safety awareness, conducting safety meetings, and complying with relevant management standards; investigating all incidents that occur on your assigned shift
Makes sense of complex, high quantity, and sometimes contradictory information to effectively solve problems. Authorizing critical permits (hot work permits, confined space); auditing critical work in process. Training on other process unit areas outside of expertise
Develop short- or medium-term work schedules to achieve planned commitments. Approve overtime or use additional resources as needed. Approving the callout of maintenance on off-hours/weekends and following up on maintenance work to see that maintenance is done in a timely manner
Plans and prioritizes work to meet commitments aligned with organizational goals. Making proper notifications (to Superintendent, Process Supervisors, Engineers, Reliability, Environmental, Maintenance, Safety, etc.) concerning injuries, emergencies, environmental upsets, including flaring, rate deviations, and unit upsets
Makes good and timely decisions that keep the organization moving forward. For example, consistently demonstrates strong judgment; may be sought out by others for expertise and guidance
Qualification
Required
Legally authorized to work in the job posting country
High School Diploma or GED equivalent
Valid driver's license
5 or more years of direct operations experience in a refinery or a related industry
1 or more years of direct Supervisory experience
Willing and able, with or without reasonable accommodation, to perform and comply with the following:
Work at least a 12-hour rotating shift, which includes weekends and holidays (generally work 48 hours one week, 36 hours the next, rotating between days and nights)
Work overtime
Be on call 24/7/365
Respond to refinery emergencies during off-hours
Work safely near large, hot, high-speed machines
Climb ladders and stairs up to 200 feet in height
Transport articles up to 50 pounds
Frequent standing and walking (infrequently on ice and occasionally on water or slippery surfaces)
Work around chemicals, including acids and bases
Work around hydrocarbons under high pressure and heat
Work outside in harsh weather conditions
Wear fire-retardant clothing and personal protective equipment (such as steel-toe shoes, ear and eye protection)
Maintain face daily so that a respirator/face mask can seal properly (some examples include being free of facial hair and/or clean-shaven)
Travel up to 5% of the time
Preferred
1 or more years of DCS experience or equivalent
Proficient (perform the skill with limited assistance) with SAP
Proficient (perform the skill with limited assistance) in Microsoft Word
Ability to coordinate and provide leadership for multiple issues and prioritize them appropriately
Ability to handle emergencies in an effective manner
Ability to read, understand, and execute facility operating procedures
Ability to troubleshoot equipment problems and to solve operational problems
Ability to operate computer control equipment
Ability to work as a member of a team to resolve problems and plan work
