The role involves gathering and documenting patient information, conducting routine testing, and assisting ophthalmologists to ensure a smooth patient experience.

Responsibilities

You’ll test and record patient's far acuity, near acuity, peripheral vision, depth perception, and color perception
You’ll apply drops to anesthetize, dilate, or medicate eyes and collect and process specimens for testing
You’ll triage emergency cases appropriately into physicians’ schedule and maintain patient flow
You’ll prepare patient and procedure room and assist ophthalmologist with procedures as needed
You’ll perform first level maintenance on ophthalmic equipment and notify the office manager of any equipment malfunctions
You will be expected to utilize, as appropriate, infection control techniques and universal precautions, and to maintain confidentiality at all times
Prepare the patient chart/EMR and room for exam based on the physician requirements and preferences
Accurately and thoroughly document the patient-provider interactions as they are being performed by the clinician in the patient’s chart/EMR
Track testing and medication orders by the physician
Provide the highest level of service and care to our patients
Educate the patient regarding testing, procedures, prescription instructions, etc
Serve as a work-up technician and performs accurate ophthalmic procedures and testing (auto-refraction; visual acuity; measure and record glasses; tonometry; pupils; dilate; HRT; VF; pachymeter; corneal topography; OCT; B-scan; keratometry; confrontation fields; administering eye drops or ointments)
Audit patient charts to ensure accurate information has been entered
Other duties as assigned by management

Required

You're an excellent communicator – both verbally and written
You're outgoing, you love the idea of interacting with patients everyday
You're comfortable providing white glove service and responding quickly to our patients needs
You're a dependable problem solver – you're the one people call to keep cool in stressful situations
You have a positive, can-do attitude and work well in collaborative environments
You're flexible – you roll with the punches and easily accept change
While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk and use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee is frequently required to sit. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds

Preferred

You're knowledgeable in ocular pharmacology such as anesthetics, steroids, antibiotics, mydriatics and cycloplegics, epinephrine, miotics and non-steroidal anti-inflammatories is a PLUS, but not a requirement
