Data Engineer

The University of Canberra is seeking two skilled Data Engineers to join the Data, Innovation and Governance team and establish the University’s next-generation data platform using Microsoft Fabric. The role involves designing and delivering scalable data integration pipelines, implementing a modern Lakehouse architecture, and contributing to enterprise-wide data architecture patterns that support analytics and AI use cases.

Responsibilities

Design and deliver scalable data integration pipelines using Microsoft Fabric, including Dataflows Gen2, Synapse Data Engineering and OneLake
Implement and operate a modern Lakehouse architecture using the medallion (bronze, silver, gold) framework
Migrate enterprise datasets and reporting workloads into the new platform, aligned to governance, quality and architectural standards
Contribute to enterprise-wide data architecture patterns and cloud-first practices that support future analytics, machine learning and AI use cases
Work as part of a project team to deliver a new enterprise data platform from build through to handover

Required

You are an experienced Data Engineer with hands on experience across modern cloud data platforms
You have worked with Microsoft Fabric, Azure data services or similar technologies in production environments
You understand Lakehouse and medallion architecture concepts and how to apply them in practice
You are comfortable working in project-based environments with clear delivery timeframes
You communicate clearly, document your work well, and work effectively with both technical and non-technical teams
