Blackhawk Technical College is seeking a Lab Assistant for their Surgical Technology program. The position involves overseeing lab experiences, maintaining lab equipment, and supporting students in developing surgical skills.

Responsibilities

Assemble and maintain instruments, supplies, and equipment for lab sessions

Ensure that all surgical instruments and supplies are properly stored and organized

Set up lab stations for student practice sessions, ensuring that all necessary materials are available and in working order

Assist in maintaining a clean and organized lab environment, including regular cleaning and restocking of supplies

Assist first-year students with practicing fundamental surgical technologist skills, providing guidance and support as needed

Demonstrate proper techniques for handling instruments, setting up sterile fields, and other key skills

Offer feedback and encouragement to students, helping to build their confidence and competence

Monitor inventory levels of lab supplies and surgical instruments, notifying the Lab Coordinator when items need to be reordered

Assist in receiving and organizing new supplies, ensuring that they are properly stored and accounted for

Maintain accurate records of supplies and equipment usage

Perform administrative tasks as assigned by the Lab Coordinator or Program Director, such as scheduling lab sessions, preparing instructional materials, and maintaining student records

Assist in organizing and coordinating special lab events, workshops, and simulations

Participate in lab meetings and training sessions to stay updated on best practices and program expectations

Collaborate with other lab assistants and faculty members to ensure a positive and productive learning environment

Perform other related duties as required

Qualification

Surgical technology credentialLab maintenanceInventory managementHealthcare experienceCPR/First Aid certification

Required

Be a graduate of an education program in surgical technology accredited by a nationally recognized programmatic accreditation agency

Possess a credential in the field of surgical technology through a national certification program that is accredited by the National Commission on Certifying Agencies (NCCA)
