AIR RESOURCES ENGINEER
The California Air Resources Board is seeking an Air Resources Engineer for the Oil and Gas Emission Monitoring Section. The role involves applying engineering principles to enhance emission detection systems and communicating findings to various stakeholders to support regulatory compliance.

Responsibilities
Applying engineering and scientific principles to determine if emission detecting systems provide rapid detection of leaks from oil and gas operations
Communicating the Leak Detection and Response Plan (LDRP) findings to the California Air Resources Board (CARB) management, California Geologic Energy Management Division (CalGEM), community groups, oil and gas operators, and the public
Supporting rule making activities, such as preparing regulatory language, economic analysis, environmental assessments, technical support documents, and initial statement of reasons
Explaining complex regulations in clear, accessible language during workshops, seminars, and meetings with community groups, operators, agencies, and the public
Designing, planning and carrying out engineering assessments of the deployability and cost-effectiveness of new monitoring technologies
Participating in field studies with others to audit the effectiveness of current regulations in detecting leaks
Qualification
Required
Possess a driver license
Pass training courses (including periodic refresher courses) in first aid/CPR/Fall Prevention and defensive driving
Enroll in the DMV Pull Notice Program and maintain a 'good' driver status
Willing to travel up to 25 percent of the time
Work in an industrial environment including exposure to air emissions, fumes, heat, and vehicle traffic
Wear personal protective equipment including, but not limited to a hard hat, safety shoes with toe protection, reflective vest, Nomex overalls, hearing protections, gloves, and safety glasses
Pass a pre-employment physical
Education and work experience with air quality monitoring and analysis
Controlling emissions from stationary sources
Interaction with local, state, and federal air pollution control agencies
Education and work experience with air quality monitoring, data analysis, quality assurance and quality control for air monitoring, regulation development and implementation, and interaction with local, state, federal air pollution control agencies and community groups
