Administrative Judge

Responsibilities
Conducts formal adversarial administrative hearings
The incumbent conducts all phases of the adversarial administrative hearing process to include issuing scheduling orders, supervising all phases of discovery, reviewing and adjudicating pleadings and motions; conducting pre-hearing conferences; making determinations on evidentiary admissibility; administering oaths and taking sworn testimony
Conducts administrative hearings in an orderly and impartial manner, determines the credibility of witnesses, evaluates testimony and evidence, and analyzes complex legal issues
The incumbent applies relevant case law, statutes, and regulations to render a decision with findings of facts and conclusions of law on all material points
The incumbent responds to exceptions and objections to the proposed opinion and arranges and conducts tribunal meetings with Commission Tribunals to prepare and issue final decisions
The incumbent ensures litigants are notified of their appeal rights
Qualification
Required
Specialized experience is experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position and is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled
To be creditable, one (1) year of specialized experience must be equivalent to at least the next lower grade in the normal line of progression
Incumbents must successfully pass a criminal background and consumer credit check as a condition of employment and will be subject to periodic criminal background checks for the duration of their tenure
When claiming residency preference, you are required, and must agree in writing, to maintain bona fide District residency for a period of seven (7) consecutive years from the effective date of employment
